Deutsche Bahn Invests in brighter AI

7. February 2023

brighter AI has received funding from DB Digital Ventures for its advanced image and video anonymization software. The Berlin-based technology provider is the only company that received investment from DB Digital Ventures last year.

The trust in brighter AI and its technology that led to the investment was built over years. In 2019, brighter AI was already part of Deutsche Bahn’s Mindbox program and has now gone through the DB Digital Ventures career path. DB Digital Ventures only invests in selected companies and technologies that add strategic value to the business, with investments typically ranging from one to four million euros.

With DB’s investment in the latest round of investors, brighter AI now brings together extremely well-known investors in the key markets such as Security (Giesecke+Devrient), Automotive (HELLA) and Railway. “We are very pleased that such a renowned German company is investing in a unique technical solution like ours,” says Marian Gläser, CEO and founder of brighter AI. “With our technology, we seek to create new ways in which images and videos can be used to advance our society without sacrificing privacy.”

In addition to the investment, brighter AI is also a technology partner of Deutsche Bahn for a new mass transit project to manage passengers to prevent delays in operations and increase customer satisfaction.

About brighter AI

The Berlin-based company brighter AI uses deep learning technologies to anonymize faces and number plates from video recordings. With its proprietary Deep Natural Anonymization solution, brighter AI protects the identities of the people recorded. At the same time, companies from the automotive, healthcare, and the public sector can use anonymized data for analysis and machine learning without violating privacy. In this way, AI learning models and privacy go hand in hand.

brighter AI was founded in 2017 by Marian Gläser and Patrick Kern as a spin-off of the German automotive supplier HELLA. Nvidia named brighter AI “Europe’s Hottest AI Startup” in 2019, and in 2020 brighter AI won “The Spark – The German Digital Award” from Handelsblatt & McKinsey.
